Europe currently has 122 IXPs operating in some 33 different countries. No less than 63 (or 52%) of these IXPs are operated by Euro-IX members.

Latin America : approximately 25 IXPs in 12 different countries. The majority of these IXPs are not-for-profit based.

NAPLA (NAPs of Latin America) is a cooperative effort of Latin American and Caribbean IXPs. It aims to share operational experiences and to stimulate peering agreements in the region.

Asia-Pacific : less than 40 IXPs in 15 different countries. The IXPs are a fairly even mix of both commercial and not-for-profit.

North America : approximately 90 IXPs in 3 different countries. The majority of the larger IXPs are commercially operated however there are quite a number of smaller IXPs that are run on a not-for-profit basis.

Africa : approximately 20 IXPs in 17 different countries. Many of the IXPs have been set-up by the countries ISP associations or other such entities and are therefore not-for-profit based.

Middle East : approximately 4 IXPs in 4 different countries.

Globally : Approximately 330 IXPs in 88 different countries.

European IXPs make up 37% of the total number of IXPs while the Euro-IX affiliates operate 130 IXPs (40% of the global number) in 41 different countries.
